Today was the day! Five NARS members ran up to Lone Star Tomball for the afternoon to help students assemble directional yagi antennas for a fox hunt. David led off with a presentation introducing radio direction finding and then we got to building.<\/p>\n

At first, the youth were a little trepidatious when they saw the rusty hammers and various other assorted tools being laid out. Dale, Glen, Paul, Kyle and David carefully directed the students, who were soon laying out different length antenna elements, assembling PVC masts, and cutting, stripping, and crimping wire for coax connections. Soon enough one or two complete yagis had been made and both Dale and David brought out radios and a fox to test things out in the classroom and down the hall.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We are very grateful to all the hams that showed up and helped out! NARS is nothing without a solid base of members who are willing to commit themselves to the promotion of amateur radio in the community. Attending NARS Members were David (WJ9O), Dale (KN5DS), Glen (KJ5WGR), Paul (N5NXS), and Kyle (K5KNV).<\/p>\n

The culmination of this endeavor is this Saturday, April 25, 9am-12pm at Spring Creek Park in Tomball. The same students who built antennas will be coming out for a special fox hunt put on by NARS just for them. If you are able to come out and support us and the LSC students in the fox hunt, please do. It would be great to pick up maybe one or two additional NARS folks with experience and maybe a radio to lend for the event.<\/p>\n
